Sometimes when words are not enough, when words cannot be found, when you are struggling, when your feelings are too overwhelming to adequately verbalize, when you may not be comfortable talking about troubling aspects of your life, when the emotions aren’t clearly recognized, Art Therapy can be an alternative avenue for emotional expression.
This Art Therapy group is a place to creatively explore, take risks, make mistakes, and engage the innate healing abilities of your brain. Art Therapy gives you the opportunity to experience a sense of well-being, and have fun! All while helping you feel present and grounded.
All that is asked, is genuine participation in the art making, and that what you create is in some way a reflection of you as a person, how you think, or what you believe.
This will be a welcoming, safe, and relaxed environment to create and share both your story and your artwork. There will be no judgement, as creating art is about expression, not about skill.
Art From Within will be lead by Art Therapist, Corrin Corbin, and consist of a directive and use of pre-set media, but the resulting artwork will be determined by the individual and their creative process. There will be time for processing the work, but there will be no pressure to share your work. The decision of sharing your artwork as well as your reflections on your process of creating your piece with the group will always up to you. Artwork can be deeply personal and can at times be triggering. Individual sessions to discuss the artwork, creative process, or any issues can be scheduled with the Art Therapist.
The group will be limited to 12 participants, who should be 16 years of age and over, as there is the possibility of mature subject matter. If there is interest, a group for younger children can be formed.
This group will allow you to experience the benefits of creative freedom, creative expression, and discover new ways of healing
